Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence is a dimension of intelligence that’s responsible for our ability to be aware of our own emotions and the emotions of others and then use that awareness to manage ourselves and manage our relationships with others. Some of the research indicates that our success in life and in work is attributable about 80% to emotional intelligence and only 20% to our cognitive intelligence (verbal, logical and mathematical abilities). (reference: Dr. L. Belsten-coaching emotional intelligence). In coaching I pay close attention to the “80%”.
The different areas approached in coaching that involve emotional intelligence are:
| Accurate self-assessment | ||
| Personal power | ||
| Emotional self-control | ||
| Integrity | ||
| Innovation and creativity | ||
| Stress management and achievement drive |
